Stuff I'm doing and/or going through: Adulting and Parenting Edition

1) Fun times with parent paperwork for preschool ("Hey we know you filled everything out for something but Not According To Our Shiny New Paperwork Website so it's gonna look like you Haven't Done What You've Clearly Done and Submitted so we're marking you down as a bad parent we're listing it as overdue"). I'm really done with the stress, augh. The folks at the preschool have been very understanding in the past, and I'm! stressed!!! anyway!!!!! I hate hate hate the shame that is wrapping around me like an oversized blanket because it is literally one freakin' single piece of paperwork that's behind, and no other pieces of paperwork at all. OMFG. I emailed the preschool and will probably hear back tomorrow.

2) Considering getting a second pair of ear piercings soon (I currently have the traditional single set in the earlobes; my eventual nebulous goal is to have six in each ear)

3) Finished a scene that's been giving me a lot of trouble since I first started the story. The characters are not good at recognizing their feelings, so it's a bit of an uphill walk for everything.

So there's a trope/framing device that was obscenely popular in the OFF video game fandom for a few years where the player "character" was placed within the game itself due to a glitch or technical failure, or just "hey the player's physically in the game whatup lol". Some were plotty character analysis pieces, others were cute vignettes, some were smutty romps of wonder (hey, I did say "obscenely" up there, didn't I? :P). While reading all three categories of the aforementioned stories, a few things kept popping up in my mind: "How did the player character get there?" and "What happens afterward?" And so on and so forth, because that's where my mind goes during stories like that, apparently. So in mid-2016-ish I decided to write a (let's be honest here: smut) story that dealt with those questions, and roughly finished it in... I want to say 2019? It's been about two years since I've finished it, at any rate.

While there are certain things I'd write differently now, I really do still like my writing in it, and can definitely tell that I've learned a lot from that project. Also, every year or so, I keep getting one or two really heartfelt, kind comments on it about how the readers felt when reading the story, and about how certain details stand out to them. It's been really rewarding to connect with others who like the source material, and who enjoy my writing. It makes me really happy :).

I'm almost done with writing the segue into the denouement of "Your Hearts, and Mine"! Then I can work on the 24 other parts that need finishing! I'm very much looking forward to completing the story. I have a hard time with finishing things due to momentum and motivation, but I might actually get this done before the end of the year!

I've got the bare bones for where I want the last chapter of "Your Hearts, And Mine" to go, all but one of the narrative notes I want it to reach, and a pretty good actual ending completely done.

I just.

Really, really am having a difficult time with connecting the scenes together in a fun, exciting way. There's only so much set-up I can write before it becomes repetitive and meandering!

Ahhh, ahhh! Figured out how to wrap up some characters' arcs for a story I'm making notes for/writing! It's emotionally satisfying and subtly dramatic and is going to be perfect for characterization.
