We all made it back from Washington safely! I got a lot of pictures of husband's family, and got to talk with them at length about family stories. I'm sad that kiddo couldn't meet husband's grandmother before said grandmother passed, but this is an unfortunate consequence of both our parents' choices to have children later in life.

In related news, I am getting better at tolerating plane flights! I still definitely need to work on storing tension in my jaw; I'll have to remember to have more accessible chewing gum or gummy candy during take-off and landing.

My counselor appointment this afternoon was productive! I can tell that I'm getting a better perspective on certain aspects of my life, and I can pull apart the why and how of events that happened. I still feel incredibly tired more often than not, but it's tiredness from doing the emotional heavy-lifting that's exclusively for myself: it makes sense that I'm tired from it.

We also made the mutual decision of not bringing our laptops with us on this particular trip. Consequently, I have not written anything for "Your Hearts, And Mine" for the past four or five days. While I appreciated the break, it's also going to be difficult for me to get back into the headspace of writing for that particular universe.

I went to Ohio with the husband and kiddo last week. It brought home how much I like the area in which we've been living, but also that I desperately need a change of the actual location of where we choose to make our home. We live far, far too close to my parents (they mean well, but don't always do well, to be polite and succinct) and it has become evident that if I don't join my husband in pushing ourselves for a new location, we will be compressed by my parents' expectations and entitlements.

I was able to face my fear of flying, as well. I still have a lot of work ahead of me in that regard, but I'm... content to know that I have been moving forward at all. Husband is fighting off a cold, while kiddo and I are dealing with allergies. Oh, how I long for a second air purifier!

We also came home to find the house unpleasantly dusty, and one of our two cats unable to breathe from the nose, or meow at all. I find it distressing that the person we asked to take care of them did not find it necessary to inform us of this development! We trusted this person to take care of our cats, and paid them for it. At this point, I think we are going to have to look elsewhere for cat caretakers. Husband has also raised the possibility that our cat has something lodged in the throat. I would hope that it's merely allergies, to be honest.
Edited To Add: Apparently it's a respiratory infection. The vet gave our cat fluids and two weeks' worth of a vaccine in a shot. Our cat seems to be doing much better!

While we were away, I received a notification of a review on one of my stories up on AO3. It is one of the kindest and most detailed reviews I have seen for my work, outside of the words from my beta reader. This is also significant because the story in question is, for me, extremely personal, and thus extremely exhausting to write. I've also been unable to work on it for two years Correction: one year due to Life inevitably happening all at once. Thankfully, Life has also settled into a Routine that allows me to force out a sentence or four every other week for said project. I'm hoping that, if my beta reader has time, we can discuss certain overhauls/modifications to my unreleased work that will make the remaining story flow better.

So yeah! That's what I've been up to for the time I've been away.

Christmas has come and gone, and I am feeling the weird emotional drop that comes with unfulfilled anticipations/expectations.

But at least I got a lot of stuff done anyway, so I think that counts for something.
