Attempts at Reading

I'm considering getting into collecting the "new" Cardcaptor Sakura manga. I say "new" with quotation marks due to the fact that it's new in the context of publishing (physical publishing moves slowly, iirc) but not so new within the context of "public consumption" (that is, I'm late to the party, so to speak). I'm... recalcitrant to get into it, due to the animated version being very... fantasy pastoral, as I described it when it was premiering. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, per se, but. That's not quite what I expected, or wanted, out of the animated adaptation of the continuation of a series that left a rather large emotional imprint on me, y'know? From what I've read of the fan reaction and response to the manga, it's much more plot-heavy than the anime--which is what makes me lean a bit more toward purchasing the manga (as well as the completion of the canon collection, let's be real here).
What's holding me back, really, is (obvious drumroll is obvious) the money. I'm worried that it'll run like Tsubasa, with its 28 volumes and infinite spin-offs and-slash-or sister series. I'm already emotionally- and financially-invested in one prose series; I don't need another, ha ha ^_^' Ultimately, the budget will decide! (Shrug emoji)
